Following the successful Science Days held in Almaty and Tashkent in 2023 under the leadership of the German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), this year's event was hosted in Bishkek — supported by DLR-PT and CASIB.
The event clearly demonstrated the vitality and success of the scientific cooperation between Germany and Kyrgyzstan. A key highlight was the work of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG), established 21 years ago by the GFZ and the Kyrgyz government. The institute plays a vital role in research on sustainable development in the mountainous regions of Central Asia.
Opening remarks were delivered by German Ambassador Dr. Gabriela Guellil, Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Education and Science Albert Makhmetkulov, and Florian Frank, Head of Division for International Cooperation with Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia at the German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
Among the nearly 100 participants were representatives of major German research institutions, including DFG, DAAD, IAMO, GFZ, FU Berlin, University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, RKI, Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Reiner Lemoine Institute, Leibniz University Hannover, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Julius Kühn Institute, the Centre for East European and International Studies, and CASIB.
